FALSE. The quote suggested Sotto was “ready” to take over and push for Charter Change (Cha-cha) to become Prime Minister if President Marcos Jr. resigned.
FACT. There is no record; video, audio, or transcript of Sotto ever making this statement. The quote is entirely manufactured to stir political tension between supporters of the President and the Senate leadership.
The quote posted on Facebook attributed to Sotto stating “Pag mag-resign si BBM, handa ako sa mangyayari. Bubuhayin ko ang usapin sa charter-change at wala namang masama kung magiging prime minister ako,” has no recorded footage or transcription.
The Philippine Constitution provides for a presidential system, making the role of Prime Minister non-existent in the current government. If a President resigns, the Vice President is the legal successor, followed by the Senate President and the Speaker of the House. At no point does the line of succession lead to a “Prime Minister” position.
The Facebook post was posted in the group BBM Supporters, with the caption stating “Lumayas ka nga jan [d’yan], wala kang kuwenta.” Current reports suggest no evidence that former Senate President Tito Sotto III is seeking a Prime Minister role.
Rumors of “Senate coups” or “leadership changes” are common in Manila’s political circles, but Sotto has consistently maintained that the Senate remains stable and focused on its legislative mandate rather than a total overhaul of the government structure.
