FACT CHECK: DSWD not giving ₱29,000 cash aid to Facebook commenters
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FALSE. A Facebook post claims the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is giving ₱29,000 cash assistance to Filipinos who comment on the post to be included in a beneficiary list.

FACT. The DSWD did not announce any such program. The circulating post is fake and falsely uses the agency’s name and logo to appear legitimate.

The post instructs users to interact and share personal details, making it appear like an official government aid program.

The DSWD has repeatedly clarified that it does not recruit beneficiaries through Facebook comments, private messages, or random online selection. The agency also does not ask individuals to submit sensitive personal information online in exchange for financial aid.

The Facebook page spreading the claim, despite having many followers and a Meta verification checkmark, is not affiliated with the DSWD or any government office. Verification badges on Facebook can now be obtained through paid subscriptions and do not automatically confirm government legitimacy.

Legitimate assistance programs such as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) follow formal processes coordinated with local government units and partner agencies. Official announcements are released only through verified DSWD channels.

Offers that seem unusually easy, promise large cash aid, or request personal data online are strong indicators of a scam.
