FACT CHECK: DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon did not say flood control was solved in three months
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FALSE. A Facebook post by the page “HULI” claims that Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon praised President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for supposedly resolving the country’s flood control problem in just three months.

FACT. There is no verified public statement, interview, press release, or official transcript showing Dizon saying that the Philippines’ flood control problem was “resolved” within three months under President Marcos.

The post attributes sweeping praise and direct quotes to Dizon, but no major news outlet, Malacañang release, or DPWH statement confirms these remarks. Flood control projects in the Philippines are widely acknowledged by government agencies as complex, multi-year efforts that remain ongoing.

Official records and media reports contradict the claim that flood control issues have been fully addressed. In Senate hearings, the DPWH itself admitted that the country still lacks a unified national flood control master plan, with projects implemented in a piecemeal manner.

Several flood control projects have also been flagged as ineffective or problematic. In Cebu, the DPWH moved to probe multi-billion-peso structures that failed to prevent flooding, while the Department of Environment and Natural Resources warned that some poorly designed projects may have worsened flood conditions.

There has been no announcement from Malacañang or the DPWH declaring that the country’s flood control problem has been fully solved. The claim circulating online overstates progress and presents unverified statements as fact.
