FACT-CHECK: Senator Risa Hontiveros will run for president on the 2028 national elections
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FALSE. The video circulating on Facebook claiming Senator Risa Hontiveros announced her presidential run on January 25, 2026, is AI-generated, containing a fake quote.  While the Senator stated in May 2025 that she was “open to all possibilities” regarding a 2028 bid, she has made no official declaration or specific statement matching the text in the post.

FACT. Credible news outlets like GMA News and the Philippine Daily Inquirer have confirmed that her current focus remains on consolidating the opposition rather than launching a formal campaign.

The quote in the video contains grammatical errors, such as “support a common candidates,” which are uncharacteristic of official senatorial press releases. No reputable media organization or the Senator’s official social media accounts have verified this supposed announcement from January 2026.

The Facebook page that uploaded the quote card, The Political Outlook has a history of sharing unverified content designed to trigger political reactions. Currently, it has 202,000 followers and a series of posts featuring AI-generated reels.
