7 Key Facts About the Philippine Team’s Performance at the 2025 SEA Games
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The 33rd Southeast Asian Games took place in Bangkok and Chonburi, Thailand from December 9 to 20, 2025. The Philippines finished sixth overall, winning 50 golds, 73 silver, and 154 bronze medals, one spot lower than its fifth-place finish at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

The Philippines sent its largest delegation ever, with around 1,600 athletes competing across 50 sports. This expanded lineup gave the country a stronger presence in more events and offered development opportunities for younger athletes.

Tennis star Alex Eala and volleyball standout Bryan Bagunas led the delegation as flagbearers. Their selection highlighted the country’s rising stars and symbolized unity across individual and team sports.

The Games featured over 13,000 athletes competing in 574 medal events. The large scale of the competition made the 2025 edition one of the biggest in SEA Games history, reflecting the region’s growing sports landscape.

Filipino athletes scored early medals, including a taekwondo gold and podium finishes in cycling. Strong early results built momentum and confidence for the rest of the delegation.

The Philippine baseball team captured gold, reinforcing the nation’s regional dominance in the sport and boosting morale for other team events.

Beyond medals, the SEA Games provided valuable experience for Filipino athletes preparing for larger international competitions like the Asian Games and the Olympics. Participation in Thailand contributed to long-term athlete development and competitiveness on the world stage.
