FACT CHECK: TV host Jose Sison is NOT the father of VP Sara’s lead counsel, Sheila Sison
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

“Ipaglaban Mo!” host Jose C. Sison is the father of Vice President Sara Duterte’s lead counsel, Atty. Sheila Sison. While Sheila Sison and Jose Sison share the same surname, they are not related by any means.

Amid the impeachment trial of VP Sara, multiple reports have surfaced about her lead counsel, Atty. Sheila Sison. This particular post gained a lot of engagements with 314,000 reactions, 17,900 comments, and 13,000 shares.

Jose Sison’s own published columns completely disprove the rumor. In a 2024 column, he explicitly listed his six children with his wife, Josefina Sison: Joyce, Jopet, Joel, Jay, Jolly, and Jaybee. There’s no Sheila.

Meanwhile, in his 2012 column headlined, Cherished Event, he referred to his late daughter Joyce as his “beloved and only daughter.”

Public records show Atty. Sheila Sison is a partner at Fortun Narvasa and Salazar and a graduate of San Sebastian College of Law, with absolutely no familial ties to Jose Sison.

This misinformation did not go viral by accident, but was ignited right as VP Sara’s impeachment trial opened on July 6, where Atty. Sheila Sison served as defense counsel.
