FALSE. A YouTube video claims that Senator Risa Hontiveros was arrested by order of the Supreme Court of the Philippines.
FACT. There is no Supreme Court ruling convicting her, and no arrest warrant has been issued. She continues to serve as a sitting senator.
The video, uploaded by “PINAS BALITA TV” on February 7, used a thumbnail showing Justice Marvic Leonen holding what appears to be a court decision. Its title claimed that the Supreme Court had ruled against Hontiveros, but the content does not present any official court ruling ordering her arrest. The video functions as clickbait rather than factual reporting.
Under Philippine law and Senate practice, a sitting senator cannot be arrested during sessions without due process. There is no documentation of any warrant or arrest procedure issued against Hontiveros by any Philippine court. She has publicly emphasized that no senator can be arrested while the Senate is in session.
While Hontiveros has faced legal complaints, including cyberlibel cases and online allegations, no court has ordered her detention or restricted her liberty. Arrests in the Philippines require a judicial warrant based on probable cause, except in narrow circumstances that do not apply here.
