FACT CHECK: Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III was NOT suspended or arrested
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FALSE. Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III was suspended or arrested, and that there was an attempt to remove Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano from office.

FACT. There is no official record from the Senate of the Philippines, the House of Representatives, or any credible government source confirming that Sotto was suspended, arrested, or removed from office in the manner claimed.

The video published by “PINAS BALITA TV” uses sensational thumbnails and captions such as “SUSPINDIDO! SOTTO ARESTADO NA,” implying arrests and a political crisis within the Senate.

However, these claims are not supported by any verified news reports or official legislative records.

There is also no confirmed report of a Senate leadership change involving the removal of Sotto or the installation of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano as Senate President through any alleged crisis or forced ouster.

While Senate leadership positions can change through internal elections among senators, such transitions are documented through official Senate proceedings and announcements—not through arrests, suspensions, or illegal removals.

Senate leadership changes, when they occur, are conducted through formal voting processes within the chamber and are part of internal parliamentary procedure rather than criminal or coercive actions.

Both Vicente Sotto III and Alan Peter Cayetano remain public figures whose official roles and any leadership positions are recorded through legitimate Senate processes, none of which support the claims presented in the viral video.
