FACT CHECK: Claims that former Bukidnon representative Joe Zubiri voted against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte are false
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FALSE. Viral Facebook posts claim that former Bukidnon representative Jose Maria “Joe” Zubiri Jr. voted against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

FACT. Joe Zubiri no longer holds public office and did not participate in the House of Representatives’ impeachment vote in 2026.

The circulating posts compare former congressman Joe Zubiri and his son, Senator Migz Zubiri, suggesting that the elder Zubiri opposed Duterte’s impeachment while his son later aligned with Senate leadership blocs.

However, the claim is misleading because Joe Zubiri was no longer a member of Congress at the time of the vote.

Joe Zubiri did not run in the 2025 national elections and had already left office before the House of Representatives voted on the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte in May 2026.

Since he was no longer serving as congressman, he could not vote either for or against the impeachment measure.

The false claim circulated amid heightened political tensions surrounding the impeachment proceedings and leadership developments in the Senate.

During this period, Senator Migz Zubiri was reported to have moved to the minority bloc after abstaining during the Senate leadership vote.

There is no official House record, roll call, or congressional document showing Joe Zubiri participating in the impeachment proceedings or casting a vote on the complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
