FACT CHECK: Supreme Court has not dismissed Sara Duterte impeachment case
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FALSE. The Supreme Court of the Philippines has dismissed the impeachment case against Sara Duterte following House hearings.

FACT. No such dismissal exists. There is no official ruling, order, or announcement from the Supreme Court of the Philippines confirming any action to junk the impeachment case.

The video circulating online claims that the Court issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) and effectively ended the impeachment process. However, this is presented as a confirmed legal decision despite lacking any verified source or official documentation.

The content relies on a sensational narrative to suggest that the judiciary intervened and stopped the impeachment proceedings, but it provides no credible evidence and falsely presents speculation as fact.

Under the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines, impeachment is an exclusive power of Congress. The House of Representatives of the Philippines initiates cases, while the Senate of the Philippines acts as the impeachment court.

The Supreme Court of the Philippines may only review impeachment-related issues in cases of grave abuse of discretion—it cannot dismiss an impeachment case or halt proceedings at this stage.

As of now, there is no verified legal action from the Court affecting any impeachment proceedings involving Duterte.
