FAKE NEWS: Marcos Jr. recovered ₱1 trillion from stolen flood control projects’ funds
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FALSE. A viral Facebook post by Tatak Trending Ph claims that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. supposedly “recovered” ₱1 trillion allegedly stolen from flood control projects. The post even cited data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and presents it as “divine intervention”

FACT. The post misrepresents Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data by combining the ocean economy’s gross value added (GVA) of ₱1.01 trillion in 2024, which equals about 3.8% of GDP, with government-recovered funds. This GVA measures economic output from industries like fishing, marine transport, and coastal tourism—not cash inflows to the treasury or replacements for stolen money.

Economic output like GVA or GDP tracks value produced by sectors, distinct from public funds recovery. No credible evidence supports claims of ₱1 trillion stolen from flood control projects and recovered by the Marcos administration. The post wrongly suggests ocean economy earnings “offset” corruption losses, ignoring that such output stems from private-public activities unrelated to anti-corruption efforts.

CONTEXT. The use of religious language and emotional storytelling distracts from the lack of factual evidence. While faith may be meaningful to many Filipinos, it cannot replace verified data, audits, and official records when discussing public funds and governance.

There is no official proof of a ₱1 trillion recovery, and presenting economic output as recovered public money is misleading. The post by Tatak Trending Ph distorts legitimate statistics to create a feel-good but inaccurate political narrative.
