MISLEADING. A Facebook post claims that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has withdrawn support from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and shifted allegiance to Vice President Sara Duterte.
FACT. The AFP has not issued any official statement withdrawing support from President Marcos or declaring institutional support for Sara Duterte.
There is no verified order, directive, or signed document from the AFP indicating a change in political allegiance. Reports or rumors involving individual retired officers expressing personal opinions do not represent an official AFP stance. The AFP has repeatedly affirmed that it does not engage in political activities and remains non-partisan, focusing on its constitutional mandate.
The AFP’s official statements reiterate that it is a professional, civilian-controlled institution that does not involve itself in partisan political matters. It has emphasized its neutrality, commitment to upholding constitutional rights, and security duties, not alignment with political figures or movements.
Official communications also highlight that the AFP respects the constitutional rights of citizens while maintaining neutrality during political events. Ahead of public assemblies marking the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, the AFP stressed that it does not take sides politically.
