FACT CHECK: No AFP withdrawal of support; Marcos remains president
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FALSE. A viral post claims the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has withdrawn support from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and that Vice President Sara Duterte has been proclaimed as the new president.

FACT. There are no official statements or verified reports confirming any withdrawal of support by the AFP. Marcos remains the country’s sitting president.

A Facebook post with over 1,200 reactions claims the military has “switched sides” and that Duterte has been declared president.

The claim spread widely online despite lacking credible evidence or confirmation from official sources.

The narrative is recycled and previously debunked. Similar claims about the AFP and police withdrawing support from the Marcos administration have circulated before and were proven false.

AFP Chief Romeo Brawner Jr. reaffirmed that the military remains loyal to the Constitution and the current administration, rejecting calls from some retired officials to withdraw support.

The AFP also clarified its professionalism after a colonel’s personal statement surfaced, emphasizing its nonpartisan role.

Both the AFP and the Philippine National Police reiterated their commitment to national security and to the duly constituted government.
