FACT CHECK: No DepEd order to remove SHS in ‘26
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FALSE. An unverified Facebook post claims that the Senior High School program will be removed starting June 2026. The post, which used the logo and announcement-style graphics of the Department of Education (DepEd), suggested that some schools had already ended senior high operations.

FACT. DepEd has issued no official statement, order, advisory, or memorandum supporting the claim. The department reiterated in a report with the Philippine Star that there is currently no policy change indicating that the K-12 program will be altered to remove Grades 11 and 12, and has repeatedly reminded the public to rely only on information released through its verified channels.

The agency has also previously addressed similar misleading posts, including claims about new grade levels such as “Grade 13” being added to senior high school. The K-12 system has always been a frequent subject of online misinformation, amid ongoing public discussions about its implementation and long-term outcomes.

Under existing law, Senior High School remains a required component of basic education. The program is mandated by Republic Act No. 10533, also known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, which institutionalized the K-12 curriculum nationwide.

While proposals to remove senior high have surfaced in Congress—including Senate Bill 3001 filed by Jinggoy Estrada—no legislation or official policy has been enacted to abolish the program. As of writing, Senior High School continues to be implemented as part of the country’s basic education framework.
