FACT CHECK: Sen. Risa Hontiveros has not announced 2028 presidential bid
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

FALSE. A Facebook post claims that Senator Risa Hontiveros said she will run for president in 2028 due to public pressure and her “nagging conscience.”

FACT. Hontiveros has not declared any intention to run for president. She publicly labeled the circulating quote card as “fake news” on her official Facebook page.

The fabricated quote card used a photo from a January 21, 2026, Senate press conference. Nowhere in the video did Hontiveros make the alleged statement.

The fake post spread widely on social media. One deleted version reportedly earned 65,000 reactions, 18,300 comments, and 1,100 shares, while other copies continued circulating with hundreds of interactions.

Hontiveros urged the public to report the post and the account spreading it. She has only mentioned being “open to all possibilities” regarding future elections, but never framed it as a response to public pressure or her conscience.
